Dave,

If you're going to the trouble of reading the PC file before calling
CPYFRMSTMF, why not just skip that command altogether and update your file in
the program you're working on now?

Matt

Thanks Scott.

I seem to have skipped a couple steps in my thorough explanation. (I
should also say that my original question has been answered as you did
below, with the open close open sequence. Not all of my posts seem to
get out.)

<snip> Okay, I'm going to just forget your previous statement that
you're reading
the file and assume that you're writing the file ;) <snip>

I am reading a file and writing out to a second file. The second file
contents should be the same as the first except for the negative
numbers. (When I changed this using Word Pad, CPYFRMSTMF then correctly
interpreted the number and copied to our iSeries file.)

Once I made changes suggested by Rick and jlingga, I can get the file
to be written.

Now, however, my record with the negative number is not copied. Maybe
the translation does something to the negative. I will look at your
article as soon as I can.

I am still working on it and will get back to it tomorrow.

thanks,

Dave Boettcher
