of exporting/importing variables.  I forget where I saw that.

I use procedures that set/get the values which are stored in the service
program's global storage.  For instance, I might have a debug flag in a
dozen procedures in the *srvpgm.  I make the flag global and create a
setDebug and a getDebug procedure to access it.  Now any *pgm can set the
debug flag on the fly.

Is this what you mean?
