Frank,

This may be wrong, but I've had a similar problem when I 
forgot to indicate in the F Spec that the file was keyed 
and the key was a numeric field. When the key is a 
character field, you get a better error message. The 
system may think you're trying to access the file by 
relative record number.

Check your F spec.
