The data area does have one distinct advantage. If you're checking/setting a
flag at the start and resetting it at the end then it's not reset when the
job dies. 

The object lock approach _assumes_ that your process can be restarted w/o
any cleanup. If the object's not locked, then go. Many jobs are indeed like
this. However, other jobs have a necessary "cleanup" process if they don't
complete normally. The flag will prevent future jobs from running until it's
reset, presumably after the cleanup process has completed.
