Hey!!! I resemble that remark! Scott, its not as simple as you suggest. This whole area is complex and requires a mind that is one notch up from most RPG programmers in the real world, including me. Sub procedures may seem simple to you but they are very confusing and troublesome for me. I am not refusing to accept change; I do that all the time. But sub procedures baffle me. I am not being a wise guy when I say... Some people can memorize the manuals and tell you what manual and what chapter holds the answer to a question. I am not one of those people. Neither are most RPG programmers. Further, the lead programmer in a shop can dictate how the shop will run. The rest of the shop must just fall into line. No one but the lead person can determine any of the algorithms or designs for sub procedures. Callable programs, RPGIV, %BIFS, and all of the other neat stuff can be picked up a little at a time and brought into a shop but not sub-procedures. However, one must cross the sub procedures canyon in one giant step. The advantage to callable programs is that your 90 year old programmers (who haven't yet agreed that fire is useful) are able to use the callable programs.
