Thanks for the vote, and all others, who didn't vote yet, if you feel
a bit masochistic today, see what kind of web sites IBM is able to
create and give RPG your vote. The number of votes are not bad; the
all-time high in that category is 39 votes, that can be beaten!

THANKS!

(And if you happen to love Net.Data - there's feature #271 :-)

The efforts to "stuff the ballot box" have been noted, and hopefully that won't negatively influence the prioritization of future work.

Why the current unacceptable situation? (Yes, most people here agree it is unacceptable.) Currently, WDSC uses the same RPG syntax checker as used by SEU. The syntax checker doesn't check /FREE statements simply due to the intractibility of locating the beginning of a /FREE statement from any arbitrary point in the source. The alternative of going back to the previous /FREE directive also has its problems, and the ultimate fall-back of syntax checking all calcs is considered to be unacceptable for performance reasons.

Anyways, we're unlikely to change the situation for SEU. But notes have been flying around internally here discussing the situation, and perhaps maybe something might be done in WDSC. In the meantime,
remember that the RPG program verifier already does a (more) complete check of the RPG source code. Also note that the syntax checker can't do much more of a check than the error messages that get listed embedded within the source in the compile listing.

Cheers! Hans
