The only caveat on not using CALLP, however is that if the program or procedure name is the same as an RPG IV opcode, then you must use the CALLP opcode to avoid confusion. Also, I think using CALLP makes it more clear what you're doing should an novice RPG IV coder have to go in and change your program later. You need to prototype your CALL and use CALLP. Since this is an external program, use the EXTPGM option on the prototype like so... d myNewName pr 256 extpgm('PROGRAM1') d Parm1 like(myParm1) d Parm2 like(myParm2) /free myNewName( myParm1 : myParm2 ); /end-free Two things of note: you notice I did not actually use the callp opcode. If you do not need an extender it is assumed that you are using callp when it encounters a procedure name. Secondly, a nice benefit of this approach is that I can rename the program so that it makes since when I use it! Here is a real example of a program with no parms... d createFile pr extpgm('PICINITS') ... /free createFile(); /end-free Hope this helps, Joel http://www.rpgnext.com >-----Original Message----- >From: Michael Gottlieb [mailto:gottlm@xxxxxxxxx] >Sent: 01 July 2003 20:04 >To: RPG400-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx >Subject: How to replace a simple program call in >/FREE ? > > >If I have a simple call to an external program, >passing a parameter, like: > > C CALL 'PROGRAM1' > > C PARM Parm1 > > C PARM Parm2 > >What is the easiest way to replace it in /FREE? > >Many thanks, > > > >Michael Gottlieb >gottlm@xxxxxxxxxxxxx >gottlm@xxxxxxxxx > >Out of every 10 people, one understands binary, >the other doesn't. > > > > >--------------------------------- >Do you Yahoo!? >SBC Yahoo!
