another idea on this is to memory map the ifs file. Using that api ( mmap( ) ), a range or the entire file is mapped into memory and is accessible by pointer. I was reading up on it a bit yesterday and still have some questions, so there is not much more I can post. But I am pretty sure it even overcomes the 16meg segment size limit of the iSeries user space. -Steve
