a couple of posts (neither of them yours) to my previous questions (most of
which you generously took a great deal of time explaining to me)
recommended using userspace to more quickly scan the records of my ifs
file.  I was under the impression that going to disk only once for the data
and putting it into a userspace for high speed access would speed up the
process.

my csv parsing routines all use pointers and lengths to the data coming and
going, so once the data is in the userspace, it'll never move till I do
something with the results.

But if you don't think i'm not going to gain anything by loading the whole
thing at once to a userspace and scanning it from there, then i'll out bail
on this one.

Huh?  I don't understand... you're reading it from one stream-formatted
object, and writing it to another.   Then, you've got to scan the second
object and read records out of it?   This is going to improve
performance?!
