I have to comment here. This will only be true if the programmer is familiar 
with the differences between SIMMs and DIMMs, between RAM, DRAM, SDRAM, etc., 
between memories running at different speeds, etc., etc. Only a minority of PC 
hardware "professionals" and far fewer programmers ever knew that adding an 
external surge protector to IBM PS/2s technically voided the warranty and could 
physically damage the system.

Our in-house PC person made some very careful comparisons of memory specs 
before adding 512MB three weeks ago to a P4 CPU system that I use for some 
testing, and he was checking for incompatibilities that didn't exist a couple 
years ago and would've slipped right past me.
