So, not even one person can do the installs without troubles?

How can IBM ever expect their user base to increase when not even the
experts can get it right without help? Pity the newbie that's heard about
the iSeries and wants to dabble a bit. Sadly s/he won't make that mistake
again.

Worse yet, pity the experienced programmer that has finally gotten
permission from his boss to try the new stuff and a week later still has
nothing useful to show that boss. Neither he nor the boss will make that
mistake again. SEU is lot of things, but first and foremost it works every
single time.

This is an area where IBM would do well to learn from Microsoft. Those
people seem to understand that their own employees are not typical of all
users. They step outside the corporate structure for their testing and
development.

they give him a special build that avoids the IBM installation routines.

I wish!

If you look at my postings on other lists Bob you'll see I have more than my
fair share of grief with installs. WDSC V5 was pretty clean for me though -
once I got a machine big enough!
