I know I point that out every time. As soon as you attempt to export a file with New Jersey zip codes in it, you will see that Excel will not keep the leading zeros of a CSV file, no matter what you do. Believe me, I've tried. AFAIK, there are two products out there that will create Excel files on the 400. One is SEQUEL from ASC, and the other is CVTDBFXLS from Kemetech. We didn't need all the query tools of SEQUEL (or the cost), so we bought the stuff from Kemetech. Works nicely. If a field is defined as alpha in your file, CVTDBFXLS will create cells formatted as text. Or some such argument. I think that's in the archives also. I just remember something like that. But still a few questions remain: Using CPYTOIMPF, I was able to create Source Member containing formatted data i.e. character strings in ' " ' and numbers separated by ' , '. But I would like to generate an Excel file from this member without any human intervention i.e. programmatically. How do I achieve that? Please advise.
