I know I point that out every time. As soon as you attempt to export a
file with New Jersey zip codes in it, you will see that Excel will not keep
the leading zeros of a CSV file, no matter what you do. Believe me, I've
tried.

AFAIK, there are two products out there that will create Excel files on the
400. One is SEQUEL from ASC, and the other is CVTDBFXLS from Kemetech. We
didn't need all the query tools of SEQUEL (or the cost), so we bought the
stuff from Kemetech. Works nicely. If a field is defined as alpha in your
file, CVTDBFXLS will create cells formatted as text.

And the reply that comes up on that all the time is if you have a string
field that just happens to be all numeric, it makes it numeric. Or some
such argument. I think that's in the archives also. I just remember
something like that.

Excel will read the CSV file that CPYTOIMPF generates

   Hi all:

I did find a lot interesting things @ midrange regarding converting PF
to
an Excel file. But still a few questions remain:

Using CPYTOIMPF, I was able to create Source Member containing
formatted
   data i.e. character strings in ' " ' and numbers separated by ' , '.

But I would like to generate an Excel file from this member without any
human intervention i.e. programmatically. How do I achieve that?

   Please advise.

   Regards,

   Hrishikesh Kotwal
