Actually, I disagree here ... RPG does NOTHING that your customers need ... what you build with RPG does what your customers need. I have yet to see a compiler that can explode a bill of materials.


RPG should do what *I* need it to do so that my customers can have what they need.

Using a different language, such as Java, is not really an option most of the time. True, Java has a lot of the features that I want when it comes to OO programming (although I really would like a true destructor) ... RPG is still what the majority of the code that I work on is written in and does the majority of what my customers need. I would REALLY like to see some OO concepts implemented in RPG. Personally, I think that would help me build what my customer needs immensely.

JMHO, of course. Your mileage may vary.
