Joep, >According to the manual you can use Z and D (instead of C) in the I-specs to >select on the zoned and digit portions of a byte. But alas, while that helps with the Digit portion, you can't readily use that for the Zone portion in this example. In this case, the first two bytes of the file were a two byte (three-digit) packed field. So you the first and third digits are contained in the zone portion of the first two bytes, respectively. Unfortunately, when you use Z you must follow it with a single byte character which has the same zone you wish to match. For zones 4-F, this is plausible. For zones 0-3, it is not since none of the characters with those zones should be used following the Z signifier. Doug
