Bite you? Well, the reality is, as you move more and more into ILE and it's
resource management features, you will need to take more care to understand
how overrides and shared resources work. However, it's not really all that
bad, and you just need to plunge in, even if some of it seems new and
different.

That's what I'm afraid of too. I would like some reassurance that there is
no way that if I specify DFTACTGRP(*NO) that it will not come back to bite
me.

When I was explaining procedures to a co-worker recently, I told them to
compile with DFTACTGRP(*NO) and couldn't explain why. I was curious also
because I thought I heard a while back that compiling this way might come
back to bite me. Then again it was from an anti-RPGIV stance that they
were saying this.

What's the difference between DFTACTGRP(*NO) and DFTACTGRP(*YES)? I
specify *NO to get it to compile and run, but I don't have any idea why I'm
doing it. I guess if someone could give a simple explanation of DFTACTGRP
(*NO) and DFTACTGRP(*YES) so that I could understand what I'm doing when
I'm doing it, I would appreciate it.

TIA,

Frank

Hi All,

Why must I specify DFTACTGRP(*NO) when compiling? The only thing I'm
doing
different in my program is I'm using prototypes or subprocedures(which
ever
is the correct name) instead of using subroutines.

TIA,

Frank
