If you are on V5R2 (or going there shortly) you may want to consider the new
FEOD(N) option.  This has the same effect as BLOCK(*NO) BUT _only_ when you
say so.  This means that you can allow the system to buffer the records
normally and then issue an FEOD when you want.  Prior to V5R2 the FEOD would
have forced the records to DASD, but this new (N) option allows them to be
made available to other applications without the DASD overhead.  Nice
feature.
