Thanks for the help Dan, and all. As far what use is retrieving the pdm default options - We currently have compile strings (in a file) we use to create objects at check-in time. It is tied in with our in-house Change Management. We want to allow programmers to use those same strings while working on the programs, not just at check-in time. We going to save and re-use our compile strings w/o having to rekey them all the time (we don't want them in H-specs). By introducing an intermediate 'compile' screen via a pdm user defined option (and with the help of QCAPCMD and a service pgm or two) we can retrieve our strings, prompt on those strings, and, if something was changed, save the changed strings back to the file. We'd like use the programmers current pdm default settings to keep this all running smooth. Instead of having a second place to have those options setup (redundant - duplication). Again, thanks for they help. John B. ps. If I have to explain the benefits of all this, you haven't been on the AS/400 (iSeries) long enough to ask. <g>
