I agree that this would be time-consuming and cumbersome. But I can't see the value of it either. The output seems it would commonly be so massive as to be totally unmanageable if it could even fit within rational limits of spoolfile size. It seems the effect could be better done in other ways. That is, e.g., why print every line of every iteration of building a subfile along with the value of each variable (that changed)? And significant "variables" would effectively appear meaningless, e.g., pointers, while others would seem unrelated to "current" source line due to effects of optimization, etc. There've been maybe half a dozen times in the past ten years where a trace of the last hundred or so statement numbers was useful to me, and I've twice missed having that capability in ILE. But I'm lost in understanding why there's significant value beyond that. Can you describe its value for you?
