Booth, >Can you explain more about the PrtCtrlDS and how it controls spacing and >skipping? It is a DS with subfields for the values normally coded as constants in the O specs for skip before / after line numbers and space before / after counts. By populating the DS subfields, you dynamically alter the vertical positioning during output using variables instead of compile-time constants. One example where I use it is certain types of financial statements. I allow the user to define "report control files" which drive the formatting of the statements. Using PrtCtlDS is a much nicer solution than how I had to do it under RPG II, which used indicators to select various combinations. See also http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/cgi-bin/bookmgr/BOOKS/QB3AGZ03/3.3.2.20?DT=19990323173815 for the V4R5 explanation. Doug
