This is a multipart message in MIME format. -- [ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] RPG is officially an SAA language. Therefore it has to run on Mainframes. However, when IBM was forced to port RPG over to the mainframe I remember that the original price was around $199,000 for the compiler. Now, there is much about the iSeries version of RPG that is 'extended' from the SAA version. Stuff that you might take for granted. I remember reading the SAA specs for RPG. Some of the RPG that is over and above the SAA specs include external file definitions. And numerous other base stuff. I do not know how much of these 'extensions' made it into the mainframe compiler. I do not know of anyone using RPG on the mainframe. But, there is a lot that I do not know. I can remember being delighted that we had ASNA's RPGIII compiler on our System/36. When I gleefully mentioned it to a S/38 person at a user group meeting, he asked me if it had subfile support. At that time I didn't know what a subfile was, (and, no, it didn't). Rob Berendt -- "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
