RE: Assign a Value

I am just now learning of the CPYTOIMPF, and I have seen this command 
referenced a few times so far.  However, in just trying to do the command for a 
temporary file, I get an error saying my TOFILE is not the right file type.   
Doesn't this defeat the purpose of a temporary file, if the file has to be an 
existing externally described file?

And yes, this may seem like a basic question, and no doubt I could become an 
expert if I take more time to research this, however, I can think of immediate 
uses for this, and I was wanting to test this right away!

An easier way to get a file with comma separated values to create a temporary 
file with the data and use the CPYTOIMPF command.

Is there a way to assign a value to a field in DDS. For example I have a
client which requires us to seperate our fields by commas. I would like to
code this in the DDS rather than in my pgm-there are over 120 fields. I
would use the values keyword but I think this just allows certain values-not
assign.
