Well, now that I'm relatively conversant in RPG IV, it seems I'm out of luck again. In order to take advantage of many new RPG features planned for V5R2, I'll have to convert to free-form. As an example, the new CHAIN capability where you can specify the key fields on the CHAIN opcode will only be supported on free-form. How far back will this compile and run? Since these are primarily syntactical changes, not really new language features, it seems we should be able to at least compile back to previous releases. Is this true? Or is the new stance that every new feature requires the latest version of the operating system to run? And you wonder why I was reluctant to move off of RPG III. Joe
