It was a BPCS environment and a real-time access was needed to and from ORACLE db. We used a MIDDLEWARE written in C that reside on the AS/400 as a DAEMON. Triggers were define for the MIDDLEWARE that checks for event in ORACLE db (in a manufacturing environment) and other events were driven on a real time basis. The middleware is call SMGs (Semantic Message Gateways). Check out the bpcs-l@midrange.com list for more info.
