How about something like this:
dcl var(&qryslt) type(*char) len(100)
dcl var(&arg) type(*char) len(10)
dcl var(&inch) type(*char) len(1) value('"')

chgvar var(&qryslt) value('(fld *eq "' *tcat &arg *cat &inch *tcat '")')
opnqryf file(file)
 qryslt(&qryslt)...

Speaking of Opnqryf, does anyone know how to handle an embedded inch or
quote mark (") in the qryslt parmeter? Like to search for the text string:
5".
