-- -- [ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] Reading the RRN of the original record or of the subfile record? I'd think you might rather update the original file records, not the subfile and then reload the subfile. Updating the subfile itself, then later needing to update the original records, could become a nightmare. To reach the original records I might have the file's key as hidden fields in the subfile. --------------------------------------------------------- Booth Martin http://www.MartinVT.com Booth@MartinVT.com --------------------------------------------------------- -------Original Message------- From: rpg400-l@midrange.com Date: Thursday, August 29, 2002 05:37:01 PM To: rpg400-l@midrange.com Subject: Reading a control record in a subfile I have a subfile that displays header information in the control record then repetitive information in the subfile record. To update this information a user may update any information in either of the records. However, if only information in the control record portion is changed, then I need to read through all of the subfile records and update each of the correspondng PF records with the changed header information. I was trying to chain to each record of the subfile using the RRN, then move the changed fields to the PF fields and do an update. This does not seem to be working. But a READC will not work either because the subfile records themselves may not have been changed. I am not sure this makes any sense in type...but if anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it. I looke through the archives and could not find anything on reading just the control record, or reading unchanged subfile records. Thank you in advance. Elonna Thompson CHCS Services, Inc.
