If I may: 'resolving' generally refers to the act of looking for a program via the library list, converting it's address into a pointer and then invoking it. If you specify the program name as a literal: CALL 'BUCKPGM', then the program is resolved the first time the CALL opcode executes. That means that if you replace the program while the caller executes, you won't see the new copy; the pointer will be pointing to the oddly named program object in QRPLOBJ: CALL 'BUCKPGM' do some more stuff (compile BUCKPGM, REPLACE(*YES)) do some stuff CALL 'BUCKPGM' You can have RPG re-resolve the program if you use a variable for the program name: CALL PGM. You can also have RPG re-resolve if you FREE it: CALL 'BUCKPGM' do some more stuff (compile BUCKPGM, REPLACE(*YES)) do some stuff FREE 'BUCKPGM' CALL 'BUCKPGM' Reference: RPG/400 Reference http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/cgi-bin/bookmgr/BOOKS/QBKAQV00/11.20.8 --buck _______________________________________________ This is the RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries (RPG400-L) mailing list To post a message email: RPG400-L@midrange.com To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/cgi-bin/listinfo/rpg400-l or email: RPG400-L-request@midrange.com Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/rpg400-l.
