Thanks Richard & Rob,

We did delete the 'FREE' code line and it didn't have any effect on the
operation of the program whatsoever (Except that it no longer abends!) (Also
felt a bit stupid for looking in the ILE manuals instead of going back
further. . . Oh well.)

Thanks,
Jerry

Jerry,

I believe you may safely delete the offending line of code. It has been
eon's since FREE did anything useful, and not much less time since it did
anything at all, which is why it didn't make the jump to RPGIV.

It's functionality was reletively nill, and your program won't miss it at
all.

Don't mean to send anybody on nostalgia trip but we have just encountered
MCH4421 "Invalid Operation for program" on a line that does a FREE
'program_name' (FREE is the op code)

I've never used this op code but I remember reading about back in the days
of Merlin. However I don't seem to be able to look it up any more. It's
just
not in the manuals?

Any clues?

TIA, Captain J
