Could be the modem needs to be set to auto answer (some dip switches are
possible)
the line must also be configured for auto answer, there is a parm for that
in the lind.

I have a modem attached to the AS400 that will not answer.  I have switched
modems but the new modem will not pick up either.  Is there something on the
AS400 that I need to check to allow the modem to answer...
I hooked a phone to the line that the modem uses and it works fine.
