Hi Bharat,

Indeed, why would IBM support two or more files in CL ?

CL is never intended to do any real database processing as there are much
better tools for this like RPG or Cobol. Especially since the ILE concepts
became available in both CL and RPG languages, I see even less need for
this.

If we would ask IBM to introduce file support in CL...we could also ask them
to introduce arrays, use of C functions, datastructures, additional data
types, ... to end up with a second RPG.

The moral is to use the right tool for the right job.

Kind regards,
Paul

PS. This is in no way targeted at your personal ideas... I've seen many
recently that belong to the same category of things that can be easily
written.

For each of them there are API's available that allow you to program this
yourself.

Then we should not ask for any change as almost everything can be coded.
e.g. few members have requested for more than one file in CL - this can be
coded in RPG - why ask ?

Bharat Joshi

        Hi,

While there are tons of nice to have things, I would request all
people to
think twice about what you ask to IBM. Without blaming anyone, just
consider the requested DTAQ stuff. For each of them there are API's
available that allow you to program this yourself.

Requesting IBM time and effort to write this for you will rule out
other
changes. These other changes might be things that can't be written
today,
or for which no API's do exist at all.

If we ask things, we should look for things that are hard to
accomplish
today, or for which no generic part can be written.

        Kind regards,
        Paul

        Hello Mark,

I would like to see the following additional options in WRKDTAQ
(similar to
        WRKMSGD):
        * List the pending records in DTAQ
        *       Browse any specific record
        * Delete any specific pending records
        *       Add a new record

Similarly I would like to see one additional option - Print all the
messages
        - in WRKMSGD.

Finally, handling of 2 files in CL - one PF and one DSPF - but only
limited
keywords i.e. Input Primary (IP) kind of processing.

        That's my wish list.

        Regards,
