maybe it's just me who's confused, but there seems to be a bit of confusion on whether SFLNXTCHG works if you chain to and update a subfile record. I won't vouch for any older versions, but V4R5M0, SFLNXTCHG works fine when chaining to subfiles, no need to mess with the MDT attribute. <very snipped code> A R SUBF1 SFL A 21 SFLNXTCHG A S1RRN 4S 0H A S1OPT 1A B 8 3 ..... Fdspfile CF E WORKSTN F sfile(SUBF1:S1RRN) ... C 10 chain subf1 81 C if *in81 = *off C eval *in21 = *on C update subf1 C end C eval s1rrn = 1 C readc subf1 81 given the above code, 81 = off and s1rrn = 10 at the end. Are we talking about compatibility with really old releases? Regards, Rick -----original message------- No, But you can set on an indicator to set the MDT flag on(via DSPATR(MDT) so it will be read on the next READC. (after chain, set on indicator, UPDATE sfl dataformat, turn off indicator) John Carr ------------------------------ Rick, Based on the manuals in those days (V3R1 orV3R2, as I recall) SFLNXTCHG would not work on a SFL chain operation. Perhaps I am mistaken or the manuals were wrong. Regards, Carel Teijgeler.
