Nothing -- if done correctly. I've seen numerous select() hogs written by people who didn't have access to the information on this forum. But the question was whether or not there was a socket option. As near as I can tell, there is on some operating systems, but not on OS/400 because it doesn't support SO_RCVTIMEO. YMMV.
