Sorry, I Hit the send button too quickly Apparently, http://www.oarcorp.com/rtems/maillistArchives/rtems-snapshots/2000/september/msg00004.html Indicates that the SO_RCVTIMEO socket option can be set on some operating systems, and if set before connect, it will influence the maximum amount of time the connect request can take, as well as how long recv will wait. But the bummer is: I pulled out my trusty OS/400 Sockets Programming V3R7 manual and it indicates that neither SO_RCVTIMEO, nor SO_SNDTIMEO socket options are supported. I also checked the iSeries info center for V5R1, and both options are still listed as unsupported. So, it looks like you will still have to 'roll your own'.
