Actually, I know which fields are from database files by their names.  So
far every application I've worked on, or written, for the AS/400 so far have
had naming schemes to distinguish field variables from program variables.
In one application the first 2 characters out of 6 stated what file it was
from.  In another program the last 2 characters stated what file it was
from.  In databases I've designed, I've used the first 2 chars.

True, CMZIPC may mean next to nothing, but it tells me that, first it's from
the Customer Master file and 2nd, it's a ZipCode.  Not to be confused with
VMZIPC which is the Vendor Master zip code.

ZIPC or ZIPCODE would be a program variable.
