Let me see if I remember the rules for results correctly.

Addition/Subtraction: Longest Variable Length + 1 (for carry)
I.E.  999 + 99 = 1098
I.e.  999 + 999 = 1998
Multiplication/Division: Sum of Variable Lengths
I.E.  999 * 99 = 98901
I.E.  999 * 999 = 998001
