1) There are a few edit codes that are user defined. You could create these. But, if you distribute software I wouldn't because then someone else's package may redefine it. 2) Use an edit word instead of an edit code. 3) Internationalize your package by: a) storing personal preferences, like number format, somewhere, let's say in a field called MyEditWord b) change your numbers on your printer files, screens, etc to characters. c) evalR dsplychar=%editw(mynbr:myeditword) Rob Berendt -- "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." Is there some way to specify for an externally described print file that I want the numeric edit codes to use European notation. So for example what in the USA would say 123,456.78 in Europe would say 123.456,78 the period and comma are used backwards from the USA or should I say the USA format is backwards from Europe - depends on ones point of view. I am writing some new programs that will be used at a European location (even though I am in USA) and I need to get decimals & commas flip-flopped.
