What I do try to warn people about is the fact that the LIKE keyword will only honor the type as it exists in the _program_. In other words a field that is zoned on the file is treated as packed in the program unless it appears in a DS etc. with the original type (either via an EDS or hand-coding). Many people get bent out of shape because they define a field as LIKE a database field and then complain that the compiler changed the field type on them. Jon Paris Partner400
