>Buck, in a similar situation I have defined a Hidden field on the Subfile I agree that this is a valuable technique; have the caller store the "select" statement in a hidden field so you can get back to the detail record. But this seems to imply that one can't readily retrieve a group of associated records like all the detail lines on an invoice. I can get at the I/O buffer readily enough, but the relationships between header & detail aren't necessarily captured in the database cross reference. Given that, I don't see how the generic retriever can identify the key value of a given record in a group. This is all too theoretical; perhaps I just need a real example to work with. Buck
