This is a multipart message in MIME format. -- [ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] Buck, in a similar situation I have defined a Hidden field on the Subfile record line that is either a datastructure with EXTNAME(RealFile) or a hidden field that is 1,024 columns long and has the needed data Eval'd in to it. Then the original record's data is there for refresh, for comparisons, and for identifying whence & whither. This leaves me with 2 parms (Original & newChanges) that can be passed from & to a validity/processing program with ease. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Booth Martin, 802-454-8315 x235 Goddard College Information Services http://www.Goddard.edu ---------------------------------------------------------------- Buck Calabro <Buck.Calabro@commsoft.net> Sent by: rpg400-l-admin@midrange.com 08/31/01 10:41 AM Please respond to rpg400-l To: rpg400-l@midrange.com cc: Subject: RE: generic file display program was: (no subject) john smith wrote: > One interesting use would be to have a 'calleable > generic file display program'. Yes, I get the idea, but I'm too dim to grasp what useful processing can occur on the returned string. Without a key to tie the record back to the database, I'm stumped. Not the first time though! <g> Anyway, David Morris posted some very illuminating code snippets on using the SQLDA to the MIDRANGE-L list on 3 Oct 1997. I think that would be a great place to start your exploration. I'd love to hear how it turned out.
