Subfiles evolved over the years.  As with most evolutionary developments,
the more they evolve, the harder it gets to introduce revolutionary change.
Subfiles are the way they are, because that's the way they are.  You can use
them, and use them productively, but it isn't necessarily easy.

The more I look at it, the more I like UIM.  It's a pity there is no
equivalent to SDA (I'm working on one, but parsing UIM source in RPG is
non-trivial, plus I have exactly zero spare time), because coding the panel
group source is the most labour-intensive part.  The RPG code tends to be
quite trivial compared to a subfile program.
