Not a problem Buck. . . I was just trying to get your goat;-) I was pretty
sure of what you meant but I was doing it for other peoples sake that may
not know the difference.

In talking about the C stream file APIs, Buck said:

>>If you mean the RPG language without the EVAL opcode, the answer is no.
>>If you mean the RPG language with EVAL, then yes.

Aaron asked:
>Why couldn't you do it without the eval opcode?

The original poster asked if an RPG400 program can directly write to a PC
folder. The term "RPG400" has been less than clear in the past. I was
trying to say that the RPG language without the EVAL opcode (old RPG) can't
use read(), write(), etc.

Of course I was less than clear. You can certainly use callp instead of
eval to invoke the C APIs, but then you lose the return code (if any).

What I *should* have done was to ask what the original poster's business
problem was: what needs to be solved. Answering "Here's my solution: how do
I code it?" type of questions is rarely beneficial. My apologies to all.
