Fortunately where I am it's not necessary for all reports to be like that. If
it were necessary I would just print FINAL PAGE on the last page of the
report. Then they would know they have all the pages when there is no final
total.

Most of the reports that have the X of X are for other companies who
requested it and that has mostly changed over to sending data files and them
generating the reports themselves.

If I had to write a standard program to do it I would probably use a CL
program to CPYSPLF and then I would count something that is on each page
(page) for example and then update the physical file the spooled file was
copied to with the # needed and copy it back to the same spooled file number
so it holds all the same page attributes.

That doesn't seem to difficult.
