1/ You can test for an error on the call either with CALL(E) or using an 
indicator in the ERROR column.  Then you can use the message handling APIs 
or CLLE modules to fetch the most recent exception and diagnostic messages.

2/ Use the QCAPCMD API instead of QCMDEXC/QCMDCHK.  QCAPCMD has many more 
options and returns the standard API error structure.  The only difficulty 
with the API error structure in this case is that the command you run might 
not send CPF messages (user-written or 3rd-party command) and the API error 
structure does not provide the message file information.
