Buck, in addition, check out IBM's free tools at http://www.easy400.ibm.it or, if not found, http://195.183.8.2 Just added to the site is a new, faster set of RPG IV (ILE) CGI programming tools called CGIDEV2. CGIDEV2 replaces an earlier version of the tool called CGIDEV. CGIDEV2 is more functional, easier to use, and performs 5 to 10 times faster than CGIDEV. Note: I authored both CGIDEV and CGIDEV2. CGIDEV2 makes it easier to write, test, debug, and maintain ILE-RPG CGI programs. Two types of tools are included: fully functioning template programs that can be copied and modified to create new programs a service program, CGISRVPGM, contains powerful subprocedures that simplify writing CGI programs. The template programs: provide examples of CGI program logic and flow extensively use the service program's subprocedures, thus providing examples of their use Some of the major benefits provided by the service program are: Tools that make it easier to use the IBM provided CGI application programming interfaces. For example, getting input from the browser is reduced to one ILE-RPG statement. The ability to store most output HTML in a source physical file, thus separating it from the CGI program. In addition, the HTML is organized into named sections, and variable substitution at run time is supported. Most HTML changes can be made without modifying or recompiling the CGI program. Debugging tools Parsing tools Data conversion tools Data editing and message formatting tools Tools to execute CL commands, handle CGI persistence, count CGI page hits, generate random numbers, and many more.
