I've never personally seen a shop where they had no regular backup policy, but
I *have* seen shops like Tom's where they thought they were backing up
faithfully and then, BANG, disaster strikes and you realize you're SOL. Even
here, where my duties do not include sys ops tasks such as backups, I have
made it well known that if disaster strikes and we lose more than a day's work
because of inadequate backups, I will NOT be working overtime to recover/redo
lost work. I have volunteered to develop a comprehensive backup plan (I have
experience with this), and I think they will give me that opportunity soon.

I do output(*file) and have a different member for
each day of the week. The help desk people query that
file each day for objects not saved.

It amazes me the number of places I've been to where
they haven't backed up in weeks, months even.
