     Thanks Chris, I'll check it out. However, the files in question 
     were physicals. The failure seems to occur for any read prior 
     opcode (READP, READPE) that uses the operational extender (E).

I found an error like this back on 4.3  I effected join logicals only.  It 
did not matter weather you used indicators or biff's.  Hans posted a PTF 
within an hour.  Check Midrange Archives for posting from me.  We have since

moved to 4.4 and have not seen the problem again.

     I just discovered a HUGE problem with a program I'm writing. I'm 
     testing on 4.3 and determined that READP(E) statements were not 
     working. I was hanging in a loop, because no database record was 
     being returned. As soon as I removed the (E), the code began 
     working again. Has anyone seen this before? I tried to look for 
     APARs, but couldn't find it.
     
     Anyone?
