Remove the blanks of with %trim

%trim(%char(xxxxx))

or

%trim(%editc(xxxxx:yyy))

or

%trim(%editw(xxxxx:yyyy))

  Is the %CHAR() BIF supposed to strip off the leading zeros of numeric
variables?  The manual only seems to say that it is allowed, but it doesn't
say what the result will look like.
