Unfortunately, none of the above statements will work. 'and' is a logical operator, not a bit operator. It returns true ('1') if both operands are true, otherwise it returns false ('0'). To avoid using TESTB, which requires indicators, I would move the byte in question to a one-byte character work field; use BITOF to set off all of the bits that I don't care about; then compare that value to the appropriate hex constants or named constants defined with the appropriate hex values.
