First you have to configure the Bar Code Reader to work with the Terminal it is attached to. The Reader needs to know what type of bar code it is to read. The field is just a character field on the screen. The bar code reader de-codes the bar code and send text to the terminal. You only need the BARCODE opt code in DDS to print bar code. It is all in the configuration of the bar code reader and how it is attached to your AS400. Christopher K. We have a program that needs to read 3 fields as one combined field. So far what I have thought of doing is to enable a single combined field and position the cursor to that field for input. Then after I read it, I would split the field into the appropriate pieces for processing. My questions are; how do I tell the program or scanner what type of barcode to read, and how do I tell the dspf that it is a barcode field?
