I drive a lot of new cars (rentals) and have yet to see one without a
lighter socket.  Admittedly they are often not as "visible" as they once
were and may not be next to the ash tray but they are still there.  Most
are marked 12V outlet or similar and they do not have an actual cigarette
lighter in them.

Do you really know any cars without them?
