If the language is true free-format then a statement delimiter IS needed. The other option is to use the record as the statement delimiter and use a continuation character when you need to span multiple lines. I prefer the ';' but others may not. It can be abused to cram code together but sometimes it may make more sense ex: a=0; b=0; c=0; d=0; // reset counters John Hall "Stone, Brad V (TC)" wrote: > > Richard, > > Why is the semicolon needed? > > > -----Original Message----- > > From: Richard Jackson [mailto:richardjackson@richardjackson.net] > > Sent: Thursday, November 02, 2000 6:57 AM > > To: RPG400-L@midrange.com > > Subject: RE: Is this the Free-Format that we asked for? > > > > > > The semicolon is needed and so is the GOTO. > > > > Richard Jackson > > Richard Jackson and Associates Ltd. > > IBM Business Partner > > mailto:richardjackson@richardjackson.net > > http://www.richardjacksonltd.com > > Telephone: 1 (303) 808-8058 > +--- > | This is the RPG/400 Mailing List! > | To submit a new message, send your mail to RPG400-L@midrange.com. > | To subscribe to this list send email to RPG400-L-SUB@midrange.com. > | To unsubscribe from this list send email to RPG400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. > | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com > +--- +--- | This is the RPG/400 Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to RPG400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to RPG400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to RPG400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
